He should not have been charged for his health care
just as the little girl and her family was not charged for her rescue.
It is a local public service and should be paid as such, with salaried staff in the town medical department. The medicines should be purchased by the state from pharmaceutical manufacturers, under licensing deals with the individual inventors until their patents expire.

Re:
I did not want to get political in my blogs- politics are so polarizing and negative these daysor maybe always have been. But i blew that with this so I'll try to respond- it just takes me awhile as writing is not something I have done alot of and time is hard to find to try to do it right. I'll try to explain why I think this story fits with a lot of personal situations in America

But your story says......
Heck had just been released from the hospital four days before he drowned, one of many hospitalizations in recent months. He was receiving health care.....his family and friends were mentioned several times...where were they? I'm sorry it doesn't fit....

Re: A sad story indeed.....
What other developed country in our present world would be fine with leaving a young man with a terminal illness homeless and needing to steal to stay alive. Most of us are faced with that fate if fate took us there.
