I don't suppose his sister is named Bess...?
anyway, my daughter's little dog is a Lancashire Heeler, a distant cousin to corgis: smaller and colored like a doberman, with huge bat-ears and that deep-bred herding urge. For all his smallness--which he has no idea of!--he is in heart and intent a cattle dog.
She has observed that Cooper does nothing for the sake of pleasing her. He could care less about pleasing anyone! He wants to know what's in it for him if he follows direction. Not treats, but a deeper gratification in his doggy heart. From your dog-tale, it sounds like this may be a Corgi trait!

All the time I was reading you here, I was picturing my sister's corgi, Fergie, and her one litter of pups she had. They are cute little buggers aren't they.
