yes the vendors were paid in diamonds...hence the movie Blood Diamonds...many of the children were either recruited or kidnapped then forced to become soldiers with the threat of death after witnessing their parents death...

actually he is living in Ghana and struggling day to day to make enough to eat and hoping to be able to make enough to finish school...how sad
