calmcantey75 - there is nothing wrong with a patriarchal society
There is something wrong however with a society that does not utilize the intellectual capabilities of 50% of its populace.

GEPRUITT -being sorry in this case means knowing that I was wasting my time

It does not imply sorrow. I simply knew you would not answer the original question.

You have many times attempted to disparage atheists in your posts and comments by suggesting that there are commonalities amongst what all atheists believe. When you leave a comment here implying that there is some form of "atheist manifesto", it can only be viewed as an extension of this type of thinking. If you feel you have been insulted, that is unfortunate but I knew from the outset that this was where it was going to lead.

Re: GEPRUITT - there is no sorrow involved

When you, yourself, say something like "I am sorry ..." I take that to mean you have sorrow.  What else could you have meant? As far as your charge that I did not say "he/she" when talking about Atheists, I generally often do that all through my writings. For the record, I fully respect the intellectual abilities of the female, as anyone who reads me regularly should very well know by now.

As far as the document listing what the Atheist stands for, then have it your way: list only the 'commonalty' that she/he has: 'a belief that no deities of any type exist' would be just fine, too.

In my response to you, I do not think I even stated what an Atheist is, much less having streotyped him/her in any way.

As far as your attempted insults to my intelligence, I might be offended if I accepted your credentials for making such a call, but I do not, and therefore I will just not go there.

P.S. Don't worry about my commentimg to you again; I have no intention of doing so.

Have a nice day.

Re: One would like to ask this Gepruitt why an Atheist should be a "he"
Kabu - that's another perspective and a darned good one I might add. I have asked a question in posts past pertaining to this: Why is it that in all of the ancient religions, the inspired word of God is entirely authored by men? We can answer this question with the obvious, in that all ancient societies were patriarchal . . . but what we have learned since that time about the intellectual capabilities of the female half of our species, should at the very least render that answer as inadequate.

I find organized religions all way too patriarcal and now with the "he , he , he, " all through the comments, Gepruitt has turned non believing into a patriarcal dare I say doctrine?

GEPRUITT - there is no sorrow involved

When you say something such as "I do not uinderstand your reluctance and sorrow for 'engaging me in dialogue',. . . " there is no sorrow involved whatsoever, just a lot of reluctance. What could I possibly say to someone who's last comment to me was essentially (paraph.) that I lacked the depth of perception to believe as they believe?

I don't speak chucklehead. An affliction who's' symptoms are immediately recognizable by saying something like that to someone else, and simply because someone found themselves out of their depth. A complete lack of human respect towards others fosters a reaction in kind every time.

The tired argument you attempt to skip right past has all been said to you before. An atheist by definition is deemed as such by a belief that no deities of any type exist. That is the extent of the commonality that can be drawn as existing amongst atheists. There are no associate philosophies, doctrines or collectively held viewpoints. Any attempts to assemble a list of collectively held viewpoints or beliefs, will inevitably fail. It will also inevitably be adhered to "religiously" by other chuckleheads.

To stubbornly continue to maintain and promote a negative stereotype of a group derived from misinformation and prejudice, ain't very Christian.

If you leave a comment here again, please try to say something intelligent.

Re: GEPRUITT - I'm always sorry when I engage you in dialogue but I have to ask

I do not uinderstand your reluctance and sorrow for 'engaging me in dialogue', but I will take your word for it.  By 'Atheist Manifesto' (perhaps not the best choice of wording) I simply mean whatever form of document which lists the principles of the Atheist's way of life; what he considers to be of value in guiding his life.  What motivates and inspires him? What guidelines does he use to evaluate his life? That's all, and call the document whatever you would like.

I do not believe that, other than the raw, most fundamental, intolerant, and 'every-word-of-the-Bible-is-true' neophites, every Christian is as narrow-minded as you seem to think.  I certainly do not associate with those people.

I hope this helps.

What the hell is the "Atheist Manifesto"?

One thing that doesn't surprise me however is that you missed the point entirely. To imply that no one would object to having articles of faith from a religion other than Christianity posted on public property is not very realistic.

Posting the 10

Although, aside from the opening 2 or 3 sentences, your sugestion seems out-of-character for you, I, personally, would not be opposed to that posting at all.  In fact, I would agree to it wholeheartedly. Actually, I think it is a great idea! We could publicly post the Atheist Manifesto as well. Very few people I know well would object to either or both.

Overall, a good post and great idea!

elinjo - I wouldn't say that I have favorites but I see some common sense

in a lot of them, especially number 9.

Whether you posted them up on a wall or not is beside the point. However it would be a good idea to publicise this list to convince certain elements in the Judo-Christian world  that other religions and cultures have just as much to offer. My favourites were 2, 3, 4, 6, 9 and 10. I say certain elements, because many of the Christians and Jews I know would have very few problems accepting these ideas. Incidentally my few Muslim friends would agree with them too.
