I understand perfectly......even now, I am not able to talk to my old/close friends about my writing efforts, while I have been able to tell you and my blogit friends like Betty, who are so encouraging. Good luck! Nita.

Go for it meine Liebe! And nop, you don't bore me, ever! And by the way, I had a look at the publisher: very interesting! I might join you there as a writer....some day! I have been looking for something like that to publish some little "traveling stories" of my own for some time now. Qui sait?

Vogue there is nothing to forgive
If one is to succeed with with the writing dream you almost have to expect for people not to understand, not to believe you. I am just ignoring everyone right now, and pushing on. It is your journey, your prize. If the book is your passion follow it, and draw encouragement from the people who are inspired by your passion. Forget the rest, apart from what's required to keep life functioning. If you believe in this book, write it. Have a synopsis in mind but first of all discover what your book is really about, and what you really want to say. Then the synopsis will come. Yes, reading inspiring books, let them fuel you, and your own creativity. Now I will be different from others and say be wary of attaching too much expectation to one publisher. I had a look at the site because I do care. I think it's fabulous to have such a mission. However, be careful because an expression of casual interest does not a contract make. I note too that they have a bespoke publishing arm, so please be very clear in your discussions with them that they are not talking about publishing something that you pay for. It is a trap that I see so many people fall for.
That's my 2 cents worth.

Vogue,
I have been where you are -- individuals who aspire to be creative are deemed "dreamers" or "eccentrics" by those more inclined to take the more secure, middle-of-the-road routes. I have wanted to be a writer since I was 10 years old and was told by my aunt (when I had just turned 19) that I had indulged my "little fantasy" long enough and needed to go and get a job as a secretary. This comment from her absolutely crushed me. Since then, I have endured countless similar remarks.
Don't worry about it!! You are obviously doing very well with your writing!! You will find people you can relate to---kind of like having a bad spouse--if they can't understand you or emotionally support you, why would you want them around anyway?
Have a great trip!!
Maggie

Vogue, you have absolutely nothing to seek forgiveness for, at least not from us! This need to share with friends we can truly grasp. It's why most of us are here. I hope you can find true friendship in your physical life very soon.

It's good that you can confide in us. It's sad though that you have nobody there who is big enough in themselves to rejoice in your successes and accept that you prefer to stay clear of mainstream interests. Here's wishing you a wonderful trip to Turkey and Galicia and enjoy your new book.

Those who can't support you as a writer are the same kinds of
people who cut art and music from school budgets. They're a bit shortsighted to deny the necessity of art and creativity in a life, and probably -- as others here have said -- envy you for taking the risk and doing well with it. There's an old saying -- if they're not buying your meals and paying your rent, they don't get to decide what you eat or where you live.

My dear friend... It is sad that some people do not understand that its OK to feel happy when others succeed ... specially when that other person is a friend... but the truth is that like you said, envy and jealousy are very prevalent and they influence how people talk and act. You are a sweetheart Vogue... and what you have, what you have achieved in your life is something for you to be very proud off, and if you want to talk about it ...even brag about it Please do! you are entailed to enjoy the fruits of your hard work... because I and anyone who has tried to publish an article know that it is HARD work doing so. and a book??? My goodness I have told everyone I know that I know you!!! I am so very thrilled to have met you. Please smile... laugh... and shout from the tallest building that you are a published writer!!!! You are talented and skilled and whoever is your true friend will be happy for you. Those that make foul comments or ignore you are not your friends and you should ignore them right back. If you excuse the crassness... SCREW them!!!! I hope you find a great house... Galicia is a beautiful place. My grandfather was a gallego and I have tons of cousins there that I don't even know loll... Take care of you and forgive me for not being a better friend... Life got complicated but I always think of you and follow your shenanigans loll Take care of you. xoxoxo

Such an excitement to a writer Wow! Bon chance Vogue! I hope the castle in Spain materializes for you so dreams can come true.Strage how friends are not in sync with what you do or only relate to their own experience and expect you to understand them without reciprocation!

I agree with Troosha on this one. But maybe you can find a writer's group somewhere? I'm so excited for you and hope that the book is a great success, or at least fun to write! Mal

I think it’s wonderful that you’re pursing your dreams – writing and now looking into buying a place in Galicia. From my experience people are fundamentally envious when we’re doing well or stepping outside the box. It’s that envy that invokes weird or a less than enthusiastic reaction because they’re probably stuck in a rut. I have a few of those called “friends”…. You go girl!
