It’s the Bible that says the greatest technique in so many words to paraphrase and interpret is as it says LOVE love. BCA, Bill*s Roost

You are right, of course...
The thing everyone always forgets in this sort of argument is that any reasonably educated and decent human being (even if they have different views) understands what you are talking about, and cannot help but be supportive of your sensible ideas.

However, of the 6 billion people 'out there' at least 5 billion cannot read or write and of the remaining number, there is a LOT of mental illness brought about by abuse, poor diet, bad upbringing, lousy education, and political brain-washing.

If you take just the USA, I doubt whether there are more than 25% of the population who can understand what you are saying and only half of those, if they read you, would bother to right back.

A tiny minority have enlightened, tolerant and intelligent views - on any side of the argument.

So when you say you cannot understand why (especially Christians who ought to know better) people behave in the way they do, it is because they are not nearly as enlightened or privileged as you are. THATS WHY!

You are not the measure of all men. Your views are way above the average. We are essentially living in a primitive society with a veneer of Christian culture (in the West). Only 60 some years ago 'educated'  European Germans were committing genocide. Only 10 years ago Yugoslavians were murdering each other in masses.

Now - this day - in Africa, Asia and other places - people just kill, maim, murder and torture at will. Even the United States of America with its predominantly Christian value culture think (the majoirty, see the polls) that it is okay to torture 'enemies' (Love thy enemies...Ahem...!) if they are not citizens.

To be bewildered as to why people act like savages when they are supposed to be Christian and loving, or at least tolerant in a civilized society with free speech etc. is to confuse the dream with the reality. There is nothing wrong with the dream, but it takes thousands of years for the human being to evolve, eg. even 2,000 years after Jesus, just look at the way WE behave.

What to do about all this?

Even Jesus said: You will have the poor with you always.....and His message was REPENT FOR THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS AT HAND.

I believe that message still holds true. There is NOTHING you can do about the sorry state of society EXCEPT make sure that you personally, while IN the world are not OF the world. Live a prayerful, joyful, repentant life and pray for your enemies. Be thankful that you understand how we ought to be living. Now live it yourself.

That's what I try to do anyway. It is no use complaining about the ignorant out there. That is to judge. It is only by the grace of God that we are who we are anyway. Let us BE the light that God wants....That's all we can do...

Best love in Christ Jesus +

Going by the premise that we are all one with G-d
and by that I mean ALL of us regardless of what we believe and what we call it; intolerance is contradictory to any teachings isn't it? Interesting discussion my friend; many blessings and thanks

Amen to this!!  If we could all just "chill" and respect each other's peaceful viewpoints, you are right - the world would be a better place.  There is so much more to life than trying to convert others to your way of thinking.  Good post! Mal
