Corbin, I have to respond to this post...

First of all, you've organized your argument very well. But your statistics are surprising. I'd like to know what data base the surveyors used, what region of the country -- because in rural areas, teeny towns, in the south and midwest, the pro-life percentage would be even higher. If the survey was taken in big cities or in the northern tier, there would be a much higher percentage of pro-choice answers. As the saying goes, there are lies, damn lies, and statistics.

Second, as the mother of six, I am clearly against abortion. However, I am 100% in favor of the parents' right to choose. No church, no government, no uninvolved third party should have any say whatsoever in this tough decision.

As for the punishment issue: the rosy picture of sacred motherhood is a painful myth where single young women are concerned. An unwanted child suffers its parents' resentment, its life may be one of neglect, abuse and worse. In the usual scenario, the mother's expectations and dreams are set aside; the unprepared father often abandons his responsibility. Guilt, shame, disappointment and hard work can poison everything. There's 24-7 work involved in raising a child, so it can be a 20-to-life sentence.

Though I disagree with some of what you said, I have a lot of respect for the way you presented your case.

A welcome change, but also a surprising one! I wonder how valid these results are...
