Re: calmcantey
My point exactly. The only way you can see what I am talking about is you must have love for God. When you love him you have faith in Him. When you have faith you see clearly. But the fact that you reject God does not mean that I hate you or God hates you or that in the eyes of genuine christians or God, atheists and gays are lesser human beings.

Thinkof it like this: the Force is God, And chrstians are Jedi.

And Yoda was clearly a Buddhist

calmcantey
I do not believe for one moment that being an atheist or a homosexual is wrong.
And there is NO proof out there saying either of those lifestyles is wrong.  Just personal beliefs.  Homosexuality and atheism are by the evidence available no more wrong than Christianity or preferring blonds over brunettes.

Kooka Re: Wwo, you quoted Yoda there

You must unlearn what you have learned. yeah, I got that from Empire.

But maybe Yoda was a Christian because the same precept is in Romans 12:2.

Your claims that atheists do not choose but cannot help it is partially true. In the same way that homosexuals do not choose their preferances. There is a biological predisposition for these things. But biological predisposition can be "rerouted" so to speak if one is willing to recognize that their condition is wrong but are powerless to change it. Only spiritual power can overide natural and biological programming.

Wwo, you quoted Yoda there
The title of this post itself bothers me, because it would be real easy to turn that around and say "The Self Inflicted Blindness of Believers" and write a post very similar to this one that shows how this point of view is really a truly subjective one and can be played out from any side using any set of religious ideas.

The thing is I have never looked for reasons to not believe.  I just figured it out on my own that for me belief in God just didn't make any sense.  if anything I look for reasons why people do believe and see if there is anything of value for me in them.  I have yet to find any.

Your post after this one you make the claim that atheists openly choose to not believe, which is false.  I've never once known an atheist who went and decided he/she just did not want to believe in God so they figure out how to justify that non-belief.  I just am unable to believe in God because it would go against who I was and what has helped me in life to believe in such things.  I have to be honest and true to who I am above all else, and that is going to mean that I am unable to believe in God.

This is as good an essay as I have ever read on blogit. Programming, blind faith in science and a lack of personal experience creates atheists. Sometimes the ambiguities of holy scripture (King James And Bacon are not ANGELS) and the corruption among holy people breeds a distaste for religion. Yet, the desire and seeking of truth, grants it. This is where atheists fall short! Well done, my brother!
