And yet, there are parents who have been prosecuted for not taking their sick child to a doctor or hospital for treatment. What's the difference?

Re: Timmy
Most states do, all they have to do is stabilize and release. Give the kid some tylenol and send them away. I don't doubt the validity of this story as it was told by the mother. Sure she may have omitted something, but I can't imagine what. Even so, what happened is not right. There are so many tales of people getting minimum treatment and being sent to the streets via a taxi cab that the hospital hired. I don't know what the answer is either, but something has to change.

Most dental insurance sucks at best. There are dentists who will allow you to pay monthly

Timmy
I thought most states had laws against turning away emergency care. Although I know there are many bad news stories, I know too many really concerned healthcare providers to paint them all with the same paintbrush.....and, I am very wary of stories passed along such as this one....the facts often turn out to be a different tale. That said, I'm with Joe....confused about the best route to take. I certainly don't trust the government to run anything, much less healtchare......and I know that fear of litigation has created a wall between doctors and patients. I've watched the healtcare crisis happen over the past 30+ years and I feel very strongly that the "fault" is in everyone's laps....and the fix has to be one that involves everyone.....blah, blah, blah...... Good post, makes us think!

So sad... I can not believe they would deny treatment because of lack of insurance specially if it was an emergency and a little girl... What has this world come to... How sad.

Though I recognize the problem as one plaguing our nation,
I'm very divided on how the problem should be solved.
I think providing universal healthcare is a bit unrealistic. Therefore, I guess the country ought to look at ways to bring down the health care prices. ., such as restricted the ability to sue doctors and healthcare venues. . , and regulating pharmacuetical prices.

THIS IS INFURIATING !!!!
I currently have no insurance, and have quite a few issues, that need urgent care... like an infected tooth. dentists want money up front ( the whole amount) before they will help me. Guess, I'll die of an infected f***ing tooth. What bull sh** !!!!!!!!!
