So well said, Naut.
Going to war with an Islamic nation is sketchy at best, with negligible results, at best, but, the line has to be drawn at WMD's.

Diminishing / eliminating extremism that hurts the innocents...
in any community, anywhere, anytime needs to be a global goal, the accomplishment of which requires a well-thought out & co-ordinated strategy of which military, diplomacy & culture all three are components that need to be cleverly orchestrated to suit the specific instance. Anything less can only be a temporary fix at best.

Nautikos

"Fruitless attempts at appeasement must come to an end at some point. If the Allies had shown more resolve in ’38, WW II might never have occurred…"

WW II had to arrive because we did show resolve finally, we resolved to destroy Naziiism and we must resolve the same thing over the Taliban and Iran. Those shmucks can't be talked with no more than Hitler could.....

It all sounds like an apocalypse movie with Nicolas Cage as the main character.   Too bad it's not just a movie and we can walk out of the theater at the end and go "Whew!  Glad that's over!"

Naut - they NEED you at the State Department.  I think the world at large hopes that moderate Muslims step up to the plate to show their brothers a non-violent path to religion - as a mass movement.  But that's pie in the sky thinking and it seems we're a few world-wide riots shy of blowing the world up, I'm afraid.  Mal
