Very true; God helps those that help themselves. The story cited by Sinome is my all time favorite! Nita.

I'm praying never to be in a position to have to fly with an airline that hires pilots who believe in prayer...

I have found that one can pray and work at the same time.  One is not necessarily exclusive of the other.

Re: don't know, auslander, if it's a saying among Arabs generally,
but there was a line that stuck with me, from a Sindbad movie of the 60s that this also reminded me of: "Trust in Allah, but tie up your camel." Which to me, is the same as saying, there are spiritual problems and physical world problems, and the right answers for one are sometimes simply the wrong answers for the other.

Isn't there an Arab saying that basically says: Believe in Allah, but attach your camel!

Excellent Vogue... and so true... Brings to mind a story my dad used to tell me.  A man, a very religious and saintly man that had dedicated his whole life toG-d, is drawning in the ocean.  A ship passes by and sends a small boat to save him... but he waves them away saying... " I have a personal relation with G-d  He will save me... ...".  A few hours later a motor boat passes by and also tries to help.  They get the same response.  Even more time passes and a helicopter flutters by and throws a ladder down to him... He also waves it goodbye with unshakable faith that G-d would save him.  WEll... he drowns.  He gets to heaven and he is pissed at G-d. so when he sees Him he asks Him : "How could You let me drown... after all I did for Your name... all I adored You? "  G-d answers:  "What do you want from Me?  I sent you an Ocean liner, a motor boat and a helicopter and you would not help yourself to them!!!"  loll . Be well my friend. xoxo

Very true Vogue! As my mother used to say:

'Work out your own salvation!'
