I don't know about comets but I surely do remember when ether was used on me as an anesthesia when I was a kid. It was gross stuff that made me horribly sick. In those days every hospital smelled like ether.

My mom used Comet cleanser, and so do I...
always have a can on hand... in case a dirty comet comes by.

Now they do have a use. People can go out into deserts and places and
pick up rocks and say "Oh look, I do believe this bit of rock is a part of a comet that fell to the earth ."

comets also mark the beginning and end of some famous authors; Mark Twain came and went with Halley's Comet.
