Dirt Bikes

Warped One,

Back in the seventies I rode a big heavy BMW, and I did pretty well on pavement, but one day I passed a small hill. It was a dumptruck load of dirt with a groove left by dirtbike riders down the middle, and I thought that if young kids could ride over it with their little ying-yings, I could easily do it with my big German tank! A learning experience waiting for me to discover! Up the hill was easy, but I didn't know that one should shift one's weight backwards and pull hard on the front end to keep from plunging nose first over the downhill side. I came down hard on the front wheel. The behemoth of German engineering weighed five or six hundred pounds, and I doubt that leaning and pulling the handlebars back would have changed the outcome, anyway. I popped both thumbs out of the sockets, (electric shock-like, agonizing pain!) and then I walked around in little circles with my hands tucked into my armpits, trying not to cry! Talk about a painful learning experience! Road rash actually looked much better, after that ride. It was at least a half hour, before I could lift the bike back up and slink away, glad that nobody saw the stupid guy try taking a road bike over a dirtbike hill.

That story is a brilliant example for your definition of what we find funny. But, as you so rightly point out, only if everything ends well.

Maybe my sense of humor is jaded, but I'm with your brother-in-law. That must have been one hilarious scene! As long as only your pride was hurt, of course. I've read back to catch your posts missed while I was away - no surprises - all great and funny stuff. Medicinal, huh? Sure you aren't growing in your back yard? LMAO!

Sam, et al...
That is why we wear helmets, goggles, gloves, boots, chest protectors, knee gaurds and if one were smart, a cup!

Wow! It was worth the read but I think I would have been in shock for some time! I can't believe you were able to just ride away! Astonishing escape from harm! sam
