I thought it was the emperor Constantine who had the library at Alexandria
burned because so much of the writing was written by Jews and pagans etc. I must find this out now you have me going.

When you give us history, You really give it to us.  They really seem to have a thing with cutting off heads.

It seems that folks take their side of the issue and run with it! I like the fact that you research and your information is based on that research as well! I liked this side bar very much! Shelly

I have read somewhere that the Library at Alexandria

was burned by Christian zealots who looked upon everything in it as unforgiveably pagan.  Sorry, can't quote you the source of that, but I found it while researching the history of Christianity and heresy.  If I find it again, we can compare notes on that.

Which is not to suggest that the Moslems did not burn it--for the same reason, though perhaps on a different occasion.

Either way, it's one of humanity's greatest losses.
