What I recall about hamsters, and rodents generally,
males particularly, is that they stink.  This idea is soooo cunning, you could hang a tail on it and call it a weasel! It would smell like one.

And who (or what) will produce the energy necessary to re-produce all these little beasts? I mean, just think of the food, the plastic toys and wheels, the shelter and water etc.....I'll stick with my batteries for now! LOL

They will be doing that right away. President Obama gave billions to research in new energy, this qualifies as new I believe.

Well, one thing I know is they breed like crazy..lol
My son had two when he was little...and woooooh was it ever a mistake getting a male and female. It was nonstop babies. I finally gave them all away, even Mom and Dad...lol.It was a nightmare. Now they'll be breeding them for our energy saving tools? LMAo. I'm sure animal rights activists will have a hay day with this one. Very interesting ! BTW, Glad to see you posting more regularly.  I so hope you are feeling better. You're too ornry to keep down for long. ( thank Goodness ).
