Well, Canada has the War Measures Act and it was used not all that long ago by Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau when they were trying to stop the FLQ in the Province of Qué. (Front de libération du Québec)
It was very startling when I found myself standing behind my truck in Montréal one sunny day, with my hands on top of my head, surrounded by Cdn. Army soldiers and Montréal police men all wanting to search my vehicle.
I looked suspicious because of the tools I was carrying in to a place to do my job as a press mechanic.
So, your post doesn't shock me, nothing does anymore and it all happens so surreptitiously and quickly.
