It is sad that not everyone is loved and protected and encouraged by family.  Families can be the most wonderful thing ever, or they can be the most hurtful.  It especially makes me sad that your son does not have the experience of having a large loving family as he is growing up.  Give him a hug from me.

I would Mal but I don't know which hospital she is in

as I did call her on Tuesday morning , but there was no answer. She is 87 and has never had this sort of procedure before. I hope she is ok.

My friend's mother went back into hospital too today at 12 noon. She has colon cancer and it is quite difficult ... to put it mildly. They have given her morphine and have eased her pain. Her mum is 84.

A colonoscopy is just a routine test.  You should start getting them at age 50.  I waited till 51, but all my fear was for nothing.  It was simple, painless (thanks to great anesthesia) and I went home 2 hours later. Unless the doc finds something terribly wrong, it should be fine.  Can you call your Mom just to let her know you're thinking about her?  Mal
