Yes, it's astonishing and very sad. Part of it may be that we're so fearful now - kids aren't allowed to do anything in case they get hurt. I blame the litigation culture...

A sad reality! My brother's kids are obese teenagers because they will not get outside and exercise! It is just terrible to be that young and so over weight! sam

It is really ridiculous.
My kids were always outside playing, as was I, in my youth. Now the only way you can get a kid outside is to throw their Ipod out there and have them hunt for it...wtf

TIMMY, it's sad, isn't it...if I wasn't out playing on a decent day, my Mom
would politely tell me to get out of the house and call on some friends to play, build a snowfort, go skating, something!..:)...Times sure have changed.....

A agree - it's pathetic. When I see the kids that appear at the gym for the occasional 'token' visit with equally obese dads, I am aghast. Child obesity has reached unprecedented levels...

Maybe it would help to advertise to parents
to take charge of the elecronics and make the choice play outside or be useful inside... There's always plenty to do around a house, ask any housekeeper!
