Re:
I still have freak tendencies, but not always clean freak.  Just freak.  It's an obsessive-compulsive thing.  Like, I can't stand losing something, and I will search the same places over and over, even when what I'm looking for clearly isn't there.  I can't help it.

Re: mousehop
An excellent point.  But some would point to the very high infant mortality back then.  Some improvement has come from sanitation, but excess sanitation is still harmful.  Everything can be overdone, including moderation.

I have even learned to share with the kitten.  I still finish drinking my water after she takes her sips.  But it took some concentration to overcome the ick factor the first time.

If parents are supposed to sterilize everything their children encounter, how did children survive 100 years ago?

Hey, Mouse - I laughed when I read this. Back in the day when my sister-in-law came to our house, she'd complain about the dust bunnies and non-vacuumed floors.  She believed in sterilizing EVERYTHING.  Now, two of her kids have asthma and my 17 and 18 year olds are healthy and robust!!  Feels good to be vindicated!  Mal

And, it turns out, they learn to see their world better by tasting, biting,
touching and turning over things to see all their sides, to understand all three dimensions of things around them. Who knew? My mom and my friend's mom. 25 pounds of dirt was what they quoted, for how much a child will eat in a lifetime, if stopped periodically,  ;-)

Mine shared things with the dogs, like ice cream cones and lollipops and dog biscuits. One son would remove dog biscuits from dogs' mouths and eat them as the dog stood politely by waiting for at least one bite.

So, I have to agree with each sentence in this blog post. Thanks for putting it up for non-believers.
