Sounds like a hell of a guy, Timmy!
I did that not to long ago -- put my father's and grandfather's military memorabilia on display -- I call it my ancestor worship cabinet. Has their funeral flags and all their decorations. My grandfather was WW I and WWII vet; dad was Korea and Vietnam. Neither ever talked about the hairy stuff -- only funny stories and interesting things they saw.

IT's like you said -- they didn't have to.

A wonderful write up and tribute to your father, truly an American hero. He really served his country and was lucky enough to have a son like you to remember him.

How very true that heroes don’t speak of their heroic deeds.  They are typically humble and unassuming people.  Great idea to put together a shadow box of your father’s memorabilia – so often they remain in shoe boxes tucked away in a closet.
