a mild digression to the theory of nature vs nurture : if only 6% of you is shaped by environment and the remaining 94% is dictated by your genes, imagine what value that 6% has when you think of individuals like Ed. Ed's dad reads what the Quoran says. simple. he understands it and lives a good life. Ed 'internalises' what his 'educators' read 'to' him. he never really read it himself, did he? he stops being Ed's dad's son and becomes a weapon of the Jamat-e-Islami. 94% of matter disappears! poof!

as parents, we have to be so careful of the choices we make for our children, don't we? if we throw them in the slush, how can we blame them for coming out messy? we can only cry, as did ed's dad. thankfully, his tears did not last, because nature won before it was too late.

actually Naut. I am confused by the whole mess. I think there are people
around with minds that don't operate the same as other peoples. Some folk talk like a winding road. I am genuinely concerned for the future of my grandchildren.

Enlightened parental guidance is irreplaceable...when other..
external factors prevail, there is usually some strong but hidden personal reason..attempts to generalize / categorize are futile..thank you for sharing your research, best, Ash

I know that I do not have to struggle to answer your last question, because you are going to answer the question in your next post.   But, I would guess that people see what they want to see, hear what they want to hear, and understand what they want to understand.  I also would guess that Muslims who read the Koran, come to it with their minds pretty much already made up, as do people who deign to read The Bible.

So sad when the few seem to lead the way! And more so that they are not decried! Shelly

Also - thanks for commenting on my post - or should I call it "Pearls of Wisdom."  I remember perhaps 20-something years ago, Jimmy Carter came to speak at our Orthodox synagogue and for years, a huge poster of him remained up on a prominent wall.  After he wrote that idiotic book, that picture came down.  I think the guy is loosing his marbles.  Mal
