doesnt it worry not to have a land line phone?  What happens in an emergency?

Thank you for this.  I never did do that since we moved here and I've been besieged and avoiding calls because of it.  Now, thanks to you, I have done it via the internet.

Yep.......
I'm on both the state and national.....it works very well, except for the call center in India......they aren't too concerned about our laws.   Now if I can just work on getting my name off of some peoples lists, I'll be OK......

My policy is to ignore unknown numbers. They will leave a message if its that important!

My husband and I
had a house phone for about two months.  The only people that called it were telemarketers and wrong numbers, so we got rid of it in favor of our cell phones (that we already had).  Once every so often, I'll get a soliciter calling my cell.  The last time, I was short on minutes, but the number looked familiar.  When they started their pitch, I said "I'm short on minutes and this is my cell, I have to go!"  to which I got "Okay! Thanks! Bye!"  I hung up the phone with a new thought about how to handle annoying sales calls...

I only answer it when I know it is someone we know, but when this call kept coming in I had to stop it somehow

We rarely answer the house phone anymore...
...just listen to the messages and...message deleted, message deleted, message deleted...

Lustor, I don't think I need to worry...maybe?
I recently got a new cell phone and Verizon said it's a brand new number...no one has had this number before.  So, if they do call, I won't have to worry.  I don't have to worry about wrong numbers either!

Re: shelly_b
I just read that telemarketers are prohibited to call cell phone from the automated dialer, so I was wrong on that one

you can still get sales calls my son and I have both had them, if the computer dials up random numbers or maybe your number was a land line number at one time

Not having a landline kind of makes me nervous too
on the other hand..no more sales calls!

posted by Lanetay on January 25, 2009 at 6:42 PM | link to this | reply

I gave up my house phone the whole family has cell phones.  This way we don't have to answer each others phone calls either and we are more mobile.

yes I wouldnt have service without caller id, but I wanted to find out who it was calling me

posted by Lanetay on January 25, 2009 at 5:41 PM | link to this | reply

Lustorlove,
2 things...one is make sure to STATE to the solicitor to remove your name from their call list (before doing that, get their name.) If they call you again, that is illegal. Two...CALLER ID!
