At the end of the day, all is in God's hands.  Thank you for a wonderful post, Norwood.  I am Republican, but I definitely see the significance in this election.  And I woke up this morning with a prayer for him and his family...the first President I have ever had on my mind first thing in the morning

Good post, Norwood.  It is good for young people of mixed race (I have such grandsons of my own) to have an example set for them of courage and determination to succeed in what they aspire to do and be, no matter the details of birth and heritage.

Thanks all and it is good to see everyone recognising that

underneath it all we are all human beings worthy of respect and have dignity. I must go and read the poems written by other people. It is one of the things I most miss about being a teacher. Reading and commenting on or complimenting others' work or should I say masterpieces.

A new era of hope dawns and with hope the small get the courage to do great things for all and become great. In fact every human being is great, some just need a bigger push to get out there and do it, than others.

wonderful post and who knows what your wee man will do someday. I believe
the gates have opened wider and more people will have more chance to fulfill their destiny because of today. I remember exactly when JFK was shot and Martin Luther King Jn. and Robet K. Tragic times I Pray for peace

Very good piece, but what was most striking in your post was the simple sincerity with which it was written. It shines brightly, and the reader can feel it. Very well done!

Keep on praying! America, as well as the new president, needs prayer every day.

Thank you so very much for your prayers and kind words. I am an American. I am a Republican but first I am for right and justice. I hope this man is the man for the job. Whether he is or is not God put him in office and I will pray daily that he makes the right choices.

Thanks I would never rely on the Secret Service solely
but trust in G-d Master of all and Creator of the Universe. JFK also had the secret service and look where it got him. Anyone can be got at and I think it is good to pray for all people. Even those that need to be put in their place at times. We pray that they may become better more compassionate, less chauvinistic, less ridiculous, more intelligent human beings in their outlook.

Honestly, I don't fear for President Obama's life. Not because there aren't fanatics out there who would love to assassinate him, but because the Secret Service won't allow that to happen. For the next four years, he's the safest man on the planet.

His election is indeed symbolic, but I fear it changes little as far as race relations go. Those who hate black people will continue to do so regardless of any individual's accomplishments. I am extremely proud, but I face each day as I've always done even before I ever heard of Obama. I expect the best, but prepare for the worst.
