Re: Auslander
Yes naut, we saw some "sachertorte" in Germany, but the real thing is find only in Wienna. I made it a few times, but very few people around here knew what it was, so, I made it only on order. It is actually a very simple cake to make: rich chocolate génoise cut in 2 or 3 layers, with a very thin layer of apricot jam in between. It is a rather dry cake best eaten with cream or a coulis. It is dry because like other Austrian and German cakes, for some unknown reason to me (they like dryness?), they don't use any syrup to moisten their cakes the way we do it for French Pastry. Not my prefered one. Much prefer a Pavé du Roy.

Just too bad for the snowshoeing. City slicker, va!

Auslander

Have yourself a nice weekend. When you were in Germany, did you ever come across a chocolate cake called 'Sacher torte'? I had it over there, and it was fantastic! I can't seem to find it here, though.

And I was looking at some snowshoes the other day, but chickened out. The thought of all the time being taken up with having to drive out into the country was just too daunting...

It would have been nice if you could have gone with him and made a holliday of it.  You know what I think I want to do, for some reason the word "holliday" made me think of it.  I want to dig out my old VCR of "Enchanted April" and sit down and watch it.  I haven't seen it for so many years.  It will be like leaving cold winter and making a trip to sunny Italy.
