The last time I chose a hobby..

The last time I was in your position i.e. felt I was at a dead end - I found myself a hobby. Somebody that I met at a Pensioners' High School persuaded me that I should learn Esperanto. Well why not, I said. That was four years' ago and it has become a very important part of my life. Now I'm never, ever bored or lost for something to do; sometimes I wonder whether in fact boredom would not be rather nice for a change.

I hope you soon find something you will really enjoy. Have a nice weekend.

You read my mind.
Brilliantly written, I could feel your thoughts, words and frustrations, excellent!

Build toothpick castles in the air? Stamp collecting?

Unravel, very slowly, your wife's knitting, so that she can work eternally?

Adopt a toddler? heh heh heh

Make some youtube videos on teaching chemistry, brilliantly?

Take up the flute? Make flutes?

Rollerskating at the local rink?

What my crazy brother and his wife are doing, ballroom and

salsa and tango and foxtrot dancing? They are losing weight accidentally,

laughing their heads off, drawing closer together and changing in their late fifties.

 She is suddenly radiant,

no lie, and she had NOT been so, and he is joking around more and

communicating more, and they like each other more as they dance.

Re: In like circumstances, I might read a Terry Pratchett book
And extra hats can always be made useful in the community.  I sometimes donate mine (I crochet, too) to a family support agency.

In like circumstances, I might read a Terry Pratchett book
Or go to the ultimate amusement/devourer of unwatched minutes: Lord of the Rings Online.  Wrote about it in The Ciel Show a while back...  Should you want to give it a spin, I still have a couple of 'buddy keys' that give a 14-day free trial.
