- Go to And in Florida: Charity Homes Turn into Roach Motels...
I'll bet those Habitat volunteers are disappointed with this outcome.
I'm wondering what happened with the vapor barriers -- if they can keep water out of a basement they should keep noxious drips and dribbles out. As for the cockroaches, they'll outlive humanity -- but ewww!

When I was one of 'those' teenagers, myself and a couple of other students sharing the apartment in Montreal caught a bunch of little Canadian roaches, put them in the empty beer case with a couple of bottles, then walked into a depanneur a few doors down and left it on the counter. The owner hade been rude to us when we tried to buy beer.

Did the owners know about the garbage dump while it was being built...
...and said nothing until now? I wouldn't be surprised.

go visit Sydney. It's cocky heaven. I didn't mind the smaller ones so much
but big tree ones like as big as a mouse would fly in at night. Did you know that if you chop off their head the body can live for another week. I know because I tried it.

Sometimes the garbage dump is in the kitchen too. I agree those cockroaches could pull little carts. Such a fun blog.

The first time I ever saw a Florida cockroach, I thought it was kin to one of their alligators.

I don't know about those Habitat people... but I am here to tell you that if you have not seen a Floridian Cockroach you have not seen a cockroach... They are HUGE!!! and they know how to read and write... they play dead , or hide 'n seek... sometimes I have thought I heard them talk...loll, but it was just the neighbor's kids... There is a huge problem down here with those creatures and there is no avoiding them. The best case scenario is that you find them dead because you have put so much pesticide around your home that they die before they can get inside. The one solution that works is getting yourself a cat. It seems that they are natural enemies because hwere there are cats roaches don't go. Or perhaps is that the cats eat them... gawd know they are as big as mice loll hmmm... well I don't know I just know having a cat works! So maybe we can write the Habitat people and tell them to give a cat with each house... Sorry I went so long... this one hit home loll
