Ah, MiMi, that explains that!
In fact, I finally saw the brand  "Duck" tape at Lowes yesterday. And since it sounds like that anyway, it makes sense.

I agree with the late great Lews Grizzard when he said, " I don't trust technology. And to me, that's anything I can't eat, drink, or wear."

I wish ours had a sexy voice, Naut!
Unfortunately, even in Greek, it sounds more like a command than a direction...

I love ours, too, Young Miss,
except this town for some reason is missing a lot of street signs, so it's hard to figure out where I am sometimes. Glad you get a kick out of these ramblings o mine! As you know, I'm a big fan of yours as well!

Thank the rotary dial gods,

Another techno-phobe like myself.  Although I enjoy a bit of computer now and then, I can't even muster up the gumption to figure out my food processor.  Let alone, say, hooking up the DVD player/stereo/CD changer/TV/VCR combo in our living room.  Crap, I still remember talking on a party line, fer cryin out loud.  Have you tried googling the locations you find on your Garmin thingie?  The results you get on line can be quite interesting.

Anyway, here's my reply to your duct tape comment:

Strat, I struggled with whether to say "duct" or "duck" tape.  I believe the reason we call it duck tape here is because there's a brand, Duck Tape.  I guess it's like Scotch tape, which is actually just cellophane tape by a brand name.

I wouldn't have thought to fix a cylinder head with duct tape.  Hmmm... could be fun, a project to do with the kids!  Just kidding.  Almost.

Our Toyota Camry...
Has the blue tooth talking phone thingie.  The voice is female and I call her Tina (or maybe Teena) Toyota.  It works pretty good, but when you make a mistake, or it can't understand "Dial Mom" and dials someone else, you might as well pull over, disconnect the battery and wait for three hours for it to forget you didn't want to dial the FBI.  It's pretty much hands free unless one is pounding on the steering wheel in frustration.

Funny as always! Actually, I have one of those 'thingies' - mine is a TomTom (the logo is a couple of hands, probably whacking away at a jungle drum), and I use it fairly often, possibly more often than necessary. The reason? I know it sounds weird - but I have christened the lady Sue, and I like her voice...

Sir Strat,
I love your stories. Isn't it amazing seeing our parents get with modern times? However, I haven't seen a rotory phone in quite some time. Do they actually still work?  I have a Garmin too and I LOVE IT! I bought it before we moved from Oregon to Indiana and it really helped. It also helped us move back down to Tampa. He sometimes tells the lady in the box to quit barking orders at him!
