Re: Re: Re: gypsypoet1975
SO very true! Also, the companies shouldn't be paying $20-30 an hour to someone who's in an expendable job or a job that requires little to no education. Personally, I think this system should have been reevaluated and dealt with a long time ago. I'm sure the factory workers would complain because they are spoiled and have accomodated their life to their income amount. Remember, I'm a factory worker myself, but I am making an avg. economy wage. My question is, why did I spend $15,000 for a degree to end up making the same amount as someone non-degreed? I don't necessarily get it or think it's fair, but that's the way the chips fall. Oh well, I just try to be happy with what I've got and at least my husband has a job in an unfailing business (trucking) Best wishes!

Re: Re: gypsypoet1975
ok but if companies such as the automotive looked out for the little guy and not the big executive siting in his fancy office, riding from one location in his personal jet things might not be in the situation it is, they only look out for themselves

Re: gypsypoet1975
Well, there's probably any # of reasons . . . I never was good at economics . . . but I do know that we are heavily into the automotive industry and it is taking a hit. Many people have worked at these factories since getting out of high school. When one factory shuts down, it recirculates hundreds, even thousands of workers back into the work-force. We are all competing for average jobs right now. About the only area that is booming is the medical field and even that, the waiting lists for nursing programs are I've heard 3-4 years. P.S. We have so much unemployment right now, I am still waiting for my FIRST unemployment check . . . they are backlogged 6 weeks right now, they've said. Thanks for all your questions! I am trying to answer to the best of my abilities. I am only 33 and not the brightest on the subject!

Well I come from Michigan . . .
I think we have one of the highest unemployment rates right now in the U.S. I wish I had statistics for you, but we are definitely feeling it . . . everything is rising, but our wages are the same. I was in real estate, which is being hit. I have an assoc. degree in electronics yet, can make the same $ I make where I currently work, in an entry level factory position . . . and I've been laid off there since NOV. MI's economy is completely affected! It is very hard to get ahead... there are not alot of opportunities out there for the amount of people seeking jobs. KIDS.... don't get less than a Bachelors in something and move to California, since they never seemed to be affected by the real world's going-on's. Not intended to be mean! Thank you for the post!

It's not as black-and-white as the media would have us believe.
Overall, with things like holiday sales being down 40% - the worst figures in 40 years - I'd say that doesn't bode well for the country as a whole. It varies from state to state, region to region, family to family. I think the question isn't whether or not the economy is bad, but rather whether and how the economy is affecting you and your surroundings.
For my family personally, things are very bad right now. We're pretty much losing everything. Whether it's because of "the economy" or simply due to a series of unfortunate coincidences remains to be seen.
