Great
descriptive piece, and that is pretty much the world where I live. Wolves, hawks, deer, moose and bear walk through my property like they own it and put up with me. Ummmm, maybe they do!!

Yep.
Every now and then Mama Nature reminds us who is really in charge. As for the pigeons and other small birds, we have raptors in our area, and I once saw a hawk take a vole in our front yard -- just ZAP! Personally, I tend to think of pigeons and seagulls as 'sky-rats.'

Very Well Said!

The modern-day Republinazis are Lee Straussian in nature, who advanced a rather nasty form of Platonism mixed with Machiavelli during his unfortunate tenure at the University of Chicago. Bush II uses his so-called Christianity only for votes. He is, in every respect, a social Darwinist, and advised by Straussians. Bad, bad mix.

There is a beautiful red-tail hawk that lives in the estuary out here. I watch it scoping birds' nests, looking for chicks, soaring with a grace and ease that makes me lightheaded. But you're right: were I to show this to an addicted, heavily Ritalined and disconnected youth, he'd yawn and want to return to 'Death Wish IX', or something like it. Sad.
