vogue, this is a photo of a crock pot like my very old one.....

with these old ones, the ceramic pot, inside the outer metal heater, is removable and can be put in the fridge and washed more easily than newer models.

They cost about $8 at the Goodwill or Salvation Army Thrift Stores. They are real work horses and do wonders.

See photo here of best old style....http://www.ljcfyi.com/blog/2007/oct2007/crockPot.jpg

And there are zillions of recipes for it online, just Google them, crock pot and crock pot recipes. Put the food on in the a.m. and it cooks all day while you are at work or all night as you sleep.

Don't be enchanted by the newer ones as they are rarely any better and cost mucho mas.

I know you can do this! I have you in my prayers! If that doesn't work there are the meditations! Cyber hug and much luck with the cooking! sam

vogue, I am of the mostly already prepared foods to heat up and serve on pretty plates. Just the salads are totally fresh...and the bread maybe. Soups in the crock pot, if you have one.

I only cook in a crock pot, put things in there in the morning and have food for a week....when it's done. Mostly chicken and rice dishes...........putting the rice in at the very last twenty minutes or so.

Yup,

I love it when people try to tell me how to do things. I look at them with big wide eyes and ask them to demonstrate their technique for me.

Vogue - just go to Costco or any other good food store.  There are so many wonderful pre-prepared meals - just stock up on those and let the stove/microwave/oven do the rest!!!!  Mal

Three weeks is a long time – you brave woman.  Best advice I can offer is to just be your self.  I suspect they know they’re not visiting Martha Stewart.

Just remember that they are there for the company, not your food! And I agree with naut: why don't you let the housewify do the cooking?

I can empathise with you.....had a similar experience recently! Just tell yourself "this too shall pass," and enjoy the sightseeing trips! All the best. Nita.

It will be good for them to see another way of doing things. A way that works perfectly as well as their way. I know they will be charmed by you as you charm us. ~Peace

Why don't you let the 'accomplished housewife and cook' do her housewifely thing and her cooking and just relax and enjoy yourself? Look upon it as having a live-in domestic for a few weeks! Her 'pay' can be the time you're schlepping them around...

That is certainly something you can count on my dear Vogue
relax and let things run as they will; if you need any help on handling the Brits just give us a shout, but I am sure everything will go perfectly; many blessings and thanks my friend and good luck (just in case you need it)
