My neighbors in Turkey - of all places- are from India. Well they are from London, but they come from Goa and have recently bought an partment there and invited me over. It's defintiely on the agenda somewhere next year. I look forward to the experience very much. And - they do cook real Indian food. Yummie!!

Re: India is that faraway, mysterious land which intrigues me much. Thanks for

thanks Decshak  you are right in that our potentials and personalities can be variously influenced by our learnings and alternatives available.

but this is also true- there are things determined by our genes that remain unshakeable. our situations define which characteristics come out and our experiences teach us to develop them or leave them latent. but they are always there. who we are, is an amlagamation of various factors (like you say), based on what our genes allow us (i do maintain ).

look forward to seeing you again

India is that faraway, mysterious land which intrigues me much. Thanks for
sharing your thoughts, although, I disagree with one little thing you wrote. I don't believe our genes determine who we are. Who we are and what are potentials may be are far more complicated than that, if you consider all the ways our personalities differ and how much more we can be when we learn of distant lands and alternatives galore....

Re: You make a great observation
malcom, you will be surprised on how many who have read this (i also post on another, smaller circled site) have missed that point! thankyou and i wish you a sniffle-free and happy christmas, once again.

Re: It is imperative....

i completely agree with you on the first part. but i would not have appreaciated it as much had i still been in london. my perspective on so many things are changing quite rapidly. i have always read about so many things even in the west (not to mention BBC reports that are so wonderfully biased  ) but as i am seeing more and more first-hand, i find, i am, for the first time, 'understanding' all that i have read and and been told about.

thankyou, metal, as always

Re: snowview
thanks nita :) christmas is really exciting here :) i find people here are so much more into the religious aspect of it than i am used to seeing in London :) and of course, the party-time 'rocks' too!!

You make a great observation

It is imperative....
....that "progress" not come at the expense of identity, especially when that identity is one so rich in legacy, culture and tradition that imbue life with meaning and purpose, as is the case in India.
As always, your writing is superb and the content is interesting and engaging.

This is full of insight; as an Indian, I enjoyed your perspective. Thanks too for stopping by, and the interesting snippets! Hope you enjoy Christmas and the New year here. Nita.
