Nautikos, the muslims that I know personally are what you call "casual muslims".  They admit to not studying the Koran or going to any kind of study groups to learn what they themselves are about.  Of course, there are also "casual Christians" who do not know much of what The Bible is about and "casual Jewish people".   An awful lot of people seem to like being casual about their religions.  In most cases that is not dangerous to anyone, but I'm thinking that perhaps it could be.

I find both the Old Testament and the Koran very Patriachial to the point
where I sometimes can't read on. I did know about descendence from Abraham. It was the son Ishmale I believe, the son of the servant woman....as opposed to the wife.... I am finding this very interesting to read and I agree polish it eventually into an article for universal release.

Nautikos
As always, education by you is always exciting.....because I can have confidence that the teacher has done the homework and because you write in terms we can all understand and follow.  You really are a natural teacher and I can't imagine any thinking person being offended by the way you present this information....and it is important that we have a better understanding of this subject in partiuclar. Thank you

Naut, I agree with the reader's views below....
and humbly suggest that, at some point in the not too distant future, when u feel comfortable, it might be beneficial to publish the gist of this series in some well-read media, such as Times of India, New York Times...I'd caution though that the tone needs to be inclusive, not divisive, in the sense that the findings should help us all, regardless of religion, to further mutual understanding for the benefit of all...I recoil every time one group bashes another one, especially based on misinformation..as I'm a firm believer of the fact that at our core, at the molecular level, we are all equal...and if that is naive, i'd rather be branded so than some stuck-up elite :)!, best, Ash

I have the update now; I had a miserable migraine this morning and forgot to get this done. Sorry Naut. I think this is a very important series and I want as many people reading it as possible. Shelly

naut, this is coming along amazingly thorough . you might well get a load of ill-will on this, but that would be a comment on their own intellect. no one likes heir skeletons exposed by someone else, but it happens all the time. like you say, we all have our little secrets. you've got me sitting on edge - i would be very interested to know (and i mean no disrespect here) how many muslims know all of this.  waiting for V.

Naut, I think you are doing a fantastic job with this series. I am learning a tremendous amount as well. I like your impartiality for it demonstrates that you do not have an agenda! I am with you all the way. I plan to update my blog tomorrow to include this incredible series. You so stun me pleasantly with your intelligence too! Shelly

I can see how exposing the lesser known truths about Islam is going to cause some to be offend... They should not be because you are not inventing what you are writing  you are rather just stating the obvious. You are doing a superb job Naut.  I am impressed about your determination to study and research this subject.  Kudos to you. I am looking forward to the continuation :-)

Re:

mordent, the ususal reaction from liberals is bewilderment and disbelief. I don't care: let them read, let them study - then I am willing to debate. Muslims may challenge me, but they cannot refute me! Partly because I, the non-believer, know more about their religion than most of them do, as I have demonstrated to the Muslims in my circle of friends and acquaintances...The thing though is that the Muslims I know are 'casual' Muslims who are terribly embarrassed by what is being done in the name of Islam! Fundamentalist Muslims, let alone Islamo-fascists, might well want to cut off my head fro some of the things I've been saying.

If you're interested, and for everyone else, I have written earlier on all this, here:

Re:

Gap, the tales of blood found in the Old Testament, while not just cautionary (they're also explanatory), are an entirely different matter from what's found in the Koran. The Koranic verses, composed by Muhammad and others over a period of time (and not completed until after his death) can be explained partly by Muhammad's personality, partly by Arab marginality at the edge of the civilized world at the time, which was the Roman world. Arabia had never been civilized by Rome...After Muhammad's death, a militant Islam destroyed (East) Rome fairly quickly. Omar, when he conquered Alexandria in 640 A.D., eight years after the 'prophet's', is said to have destroyed at least what was left of the great Alexandrian library, although others may have destroyed part of it earlier...

It all sounds truthfull but i wonder if any muslims will challenge or befriend you on this. Well this is the purpose/often end result on these blogs.

I think some people just like to go wild and cause mayhem.

Naut - a frightening account.  There is much bloodshed in the Old Testament, too (starting with Cain and Able), but the difference is - those instances are cautionary tales and thus models of what NOT to do (thou shalt not murder, etc.) rather than a template for a religiously observant life.  It leaves a peace-loving person wondering what could have accounted for such divergent ways of thinking.  Great post.  Mal
