dear old golden rule days--

taught to the tune of a hickory stick...."

What happened?

In a case like that, it might behoove London to send in a couple of
Special Forces or MI-5 dudes with some real training in intimidation and control. Give 'em the toughest ringleaders for a week of sleep deprivation and discipline. That should fix at least one classroom. As for the woman who may never teach again -- she's earned her purple heart and a chance at a safer job, like working on a SWAT team.

When adults refuse to enforce boundaries on kids....
....whether from fear of lawsuits(America) or cowardice or assinine psychological notions, then we can write-off the future for that civilization. And for Western Civilization, the future looks pretty f****ing bleak. Pardon my french.

Oh my Gawd...what is this world coming to... when I was a kid, if we threw a paper ball to another student we got suspended and to throw it to the teacher was grounds for expulsion.  That post is shocking Naut...in London of all places... one imagine Brits to be so calm cool and collected, always polite.  I guess not  loll.

I'm sure it wasn't the kids who charged Dolan with misconduct..what we need to ask is 'What's wrong with those adults??'

I think she could make a very lucrative business from being ired around the
world by schools in need of exposure. What ever happened to society where children got so out of control and no one must ever say or do anything to upset them. GRRRRRRRRR

Nautikos
My father, a school superintendent, retired at 55 after the seniors at the commencement that year "mooned" the audience.....he was just sick of it.  And that was in 1982.....it's continued downhill until it's not that hard to imagine the end of civilization in this country....and this world.  OMG!  I sound like my mother!

What's an educator to do!? This is one of the reasons I opted out of the profession! Shelly

agreeing with Auslander--basic social contract should be learned at home
but if both parents are working in order to provide the material goodies kids want--like food and clothing and shelter--kids learn by watching TV or making it up as they go, watching how other kids do things.  Neither social nor emotional maturity are likely to be the result of families broken by financial struggle.

it seems that I am stocked with the politeness theme today....

ya, but as we know, the problem does not start at school but at home. If you never ask your kids to respect others where will they learn?

Politeness allows society to work without too much social friction and un-necessary violence. A fact that many parents have decided to ignore in the face of equality (there are no kids and parents in the family, just a happy group of friends) and freedom (do what you want, dud. You have no duties, just rights!).
