Sometimes it is best to be quiet and not travel this path of regret!

A poem like this should serve as a caution as to what should be said

Yes, the mind has a strange way of going into auto-play at the slightest stimulus -- even when we're asleep. Hurtful thoughts, actions and words remain with us...either consciously or subconsciously. Peace, blessings and understanding.~SS

You are absolutely right!  I have heard the saying -- "You may not remember what someone said, but you'll always remember how they made you feel." The pain of harsh words can be devastating. Thanks for commenting. Peace, blessings and understanding.~SS

Thank you! It is true that the tongue is "a two-edged sword" -- and it can kill the spirit. Thanks for commenting. Peace, blessings and understanding.~SS

Love your love poems!
Isn't it something what words can do to someone?  Lies are the worst of all.

I think I'd rather be slapped than lied to.  Terrific poem.

The sword the tongue sharp like a sword!

I found this to ring true with me:
But the mind forever harbors
past thoughts, past actions, past words,
whether consciously remembered or in the midst of dreams
 An outstanding poem indeed! sam

Beautifully expressed
I think we should all learn to think before we speak. The old adage that if you can't say something nice you should say nothing at all is so true. The pain of harshly spoken words stays in the mind long beyond the time period when the memory of physical pain is gone.  Geraldine

Soul

Words – they can heal but they can also cut like a knife (and oh, how we regret when this happens).
