Great write, you seem to have this really clearly in your mind and are doing a great job explaining it to us. Thanks Naut for taking the time ... I am going to the fourth :-)

An excellent point... that Israel have a secure existence, but also to remember that all people, nations, countries, etc. want to have a secure existence. The quotes are right on. Hate needs to be crushed. Very interesting and insightful reading. Looking forward to reading more.

As it took me about as long before reading this last entry as it took you to write it, I feel like it's brand new! So, I don't feel like it's been too long between entries!
As for the Middle East, and its people (be it Muslims, Israelites, Christians etc.), I must be frank here and tell you that sometimes I wish we could send all those who are not prepared to discuss the issues in other ways than by bombing each other (and yes, there are fanatics in all of these "camps") on another planet where they could "work out" their differences of point of view all by themselves! Other fanatics would be welcome to tag along too!

Neo-anti-semitism?
At least some element of the trend you refer to, of liberal political thought tending lately against Israel, I suggest is due to a perception that support of Israel had become itself kind of reflexive without due thought. This is the pendulum swinging the other way. At its extreme range, is the thoughtless, reactive, and somewhere in the center is something more like truth.
When I was in high school or college (at these long distances from the point in time, who can be sure?) it occured to me that I thought, without thinking, of Israel as being a sort of 51st State of the US. We seemed to have adopted it. And I thought without thinking of Israel as The Good Guys, casting the Palestinians as the Bad Guys.
I've come to question many things I took for granted in that long-ago, including whether there are any Good or Bad Guys, in the Big Picture. I hate the idea of believing anyone should be excluded from the circle of humanity, of compassion and tolerance.
And yet... though I have drawn new lines, I still have them. On the other side of them are those who are pathologically intolerant, who can truly only see their own way as the only way that can be permitted to exist. Belligerant fundamentalist supremacists of every kind fall into this category.
I still can't say I hate these people, though I do fear what they can do and I do believe we must find a way to contain them and eliminate their threat. I hate that our lives have to be lived around them, that we can't just ignore them, that we can't tolerate them.

I am interested in seeing where you're headed with this........
At first, I thought the focus was on the India/Pakistan situation.....but you've chosen a different path...................

I shall continue to keep my eye out for the next.
I don't think racial hate ever dies. It just goes underground.

Do Western liberals regard an anti-Israel stance as a permissible form of a
anti-semitism?
Thanks for addressing this Natut - it is a rather disturbing trend, particularly for those of the Jewish faith like me. As far as Israel goes - it's Army is called the IDF (Israeli DEFENSE Force) not Israeli Occupational Force, and as such its primary directive is to DEFEND itself against hostile neighbors. If Canada or Mexico start lobbing bombs into the US, we'll see how well our own country practices "restraint" in the name of Peace! Mal
