Hmmm...
...got me thinking, Naut. Actually,
Homophobia does have an element of literal fear among those religious who fear the influence of open homosexuality on the whole of society....as if it were contagious.
Just as in every religion, there are moderates and fanatics, and unfortunately, religions tend to be defined by the fanatical element.
I, myself, loath religious fanatics, because they are a danger to society, whether through acts of violence or repressive intentions for the rest of us.
The trouble with modern Islam is that it is now defined by the acts of random and extreme violence by it's most fanatical adherents, which makes
Islamophobia not only inevitable, but, among non-Muslims....legitimate....to a degree. After all, the Muslims who were responsible for the attacks of 9/11 lived and trained among us....so, how do we know?
Sorry for the rant....it's all your fault! lmao

firstly, very forthright. kudos on that.
further, i think by speaking of homophobia and the new entrant among terms in the same vein, we are trivialising both. while the former is serious and tedious, it is something that can be tackled variously via education and exposure. dealing with the latter, unfortunately, is more daunting. An entire race is being blacklisted because of the actions of fringe elements. that these fringes are growing in volume and effect, does not do the race any favours. that these militants want to embed fear and bring about subjugation, somehow makes it rather easy to cement the bias.
Islam stands for nothing these lawless elements are perpetrating. What are some Islamists are doing, however, makes it impossible to believe.
you have drawn the distinction between suffering a condition and being guilty of an opinion, rather well. unfortunately, in this case, the suffering is for all to see. the guilt of resenting it, rather justified.
again, a very involving post.

I don't believe that Islamophobia is the
fear of Islam, I think that like homophobia, it is the
hatred of. That one should be afraid of terrorists (Catalans Liberators, Irish Liberators, etc. Ring a bell anyone?) is understandable and healthy. But to put everyone in the same bag because of a group of insane fanatics is dangerous: it is called racism.

Be interesting to see where you take this
I don't believe lslamaphobia is any more justified than homophobia. I think that yes there can be feelings fo revulsion but very often homophobia is driven by fear, a fear of the self and the many and varied feelings people have within them. I think to justify Islamaphobia overlooks the billions of millions who continue to live their lives as best they can - people who also suffer in the bloodshed, and who are not running with or condoning terrorism. Ultimately most people want similar things but can take varied paths. Who stops the hate and fear first?

Nautikos, I just get going good and then, whammo, we have to wait days and days for the next part. I definitely can see the difference in the reasoning of "fear" between the two.

I'm glad I popped in here for a read for today I was appalled by something
presented on tv and the way it was presented. It spoke of bio-warfare being the next way Islamic extremists will attack the world. well the Usa anyway according to the presenter. After listening in stunned and terrified silence for a bit though I realized that this was a fear segment a theory only with for sure the Anthrax reality thrown in to make it plausible. I switched it off quick. There is always someone trying to terrify us into hating each other.

Excellent points. "Phobia" is the new buzzword created by the sissy leftist media to make us feel guilty for not accepting that which we feel is wrong, deadly or repulsive. Guilt is a major weapon of theirs.
I say let them call me a bad guy, phobic or whatever and I'll just call them stupid.
