Flidgeling,
I think it's so thoughtful of you to keep that journal for him. Good for you. Thanks so much for reading this and your comments!

This is beautiful.
I imagine none of us can really know what our parents went through emotionally in our early years. I've been keeping a journal for Sucky since I was six months pregnant and plan to give it to him when he's 18, unless I die first. Let's hope for the former...lol. What a beautiful letter your mother wrote you and those words are now a part of you. I'm sorry for your loss, but very happy for you for all the insight you've gained.

Wow Spitfire...
...that's amazing to have found what you did.  I'm sure it was a totally emotional experience but fabulous...like your mom was right there with you when you were reading her words.  Forgiving and accepting are so linked and when you reach those points with those in your life that mean the most it's an exciting plateau.  Certainly none of us get even close to perfection...even though we'd love to think we can have that perfect relationship...rather we take the good parts and raise them high.  I'm happy for you Spitfire to have found those pieces of your mom.
