I understand you went through an earthquake recently and I know what that is like since I went through the Northridge earthquake when I lived in sou cal during the earlyto mid 90's. I was thrown up in the air about 2 feet at first. Then about 30 seconds later several strong waves rolled from left to right. It was like being on water and it tossed everything around, causing a major blackout. Kind regards

That area is on the edge of a 'plate' and also along fault lines. As plates move relative to each other, earthquakes are generated at the edges. Stable land masses( with older rocks) usually have no seismic activity. The Canadian Shield and the Deccan are examples. I majored in Geography and couldn't help remembering the above!
