I've always thought that a really good film could be made of CASINO ROYALE, if someone wanted to do a serious adaptation of it, free of the demands of the Bond franchise.  Unfortunately, the 2006 version of CASINO ROYALE wasn't it.  Although I thought Daniel Craig's interpretation of James Bond was excellent (he actually seemed like a killer!), the humor didn't work, the actions scenes - although very well-staged - had that overly-long, bludgeoning quality that movie action scenes have in a post-911 world, and, frankly, there were long stretches of the film which were just boring.  But it's a masterpiece compared to QUANTUM OF SOLACE.  A muddled plot, a complete lack of humor (one of the things a successful Bond film thrives on is its weird humor), and choppily-edited action scenes make this one of the least of the series.  And Judi Dench's perpetually grim, hands-on M is getting really tiresome.  The Roger Moore-era Bonds are complete cinematic excrement, but at least they had some energy . . . Oh, my God, I can't believe that I just compared something unfavorably to a Roger Moore Bond film . . .

I AGREE ON THE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
although Bond is usually more of a one-dimensional character -- but great fantasy -- love it.

this one has a little more depth --

too little dialogue though -- i think that lends to the lack of depth

so much action -- moves so fast -- movie doesnt seem to slow down enough that you can make sense of the story line or the action.

interesting new technology though --
