Re: Justi, the "brilliant" know all mousehop missed the boat on your comments
Actually, I noticed the statement about scientists being fired for opposing global warming.  But where are the stories about it?  There are a lot of well-known global warming skeptics who are still teaching.  Richard Lindzen at MIT, for example.  Robust debate does still exist in American universities.

I remember all the talk of professors being fired for opposing Evolution as well, like in the silly movie by Ben Stein.  Turned out none of his professors lost jobs for opposing Evolution.  One did lose his job, but then he was only at that job on Sabbatical, so he didn't really lose his job; it just ended as scheduled.  So, show me some kind of political persecution of glabal warming skeptics, and I'll check it out.  I know that there's not much money going to anti-global warming research, and that may be based in politics, but it may also be based in science.  Without evidence to the contrary, I'm giving my colleagues the benefit of the doubt.

If all the rhetoric on CNN and Fox alone could be channelled there would be

enough hot air to actually get some thing started, perhaps a steam driven power plant!!!!!!

I am beginning to think the media stirs up the people just to keep their jobs as they really have very little to say in a day. God bless you darling for having opinions and sticking to them.

re global warming.  He's willing to debate the facts, what with his superior knowledge in chemistry, but I think the greater concern here is your comment that scientists are being fired because they don't support global warming.  The university used to be a place (supposedly) where ideas could safely be discussed amongst peers.  They could disagree, but there was respect for differences of opinion.  It was once a place where open dialogue and debate could occur.  Evidently this is no longer the case.  If you don't swallow the new "truths" of global warming, or embryonic stem cell cures, or politics, or gay marriage then you're screwed.  But crackpots like Ayers and his ilk are able to keep teaching.

I'm not surprised, are you?

I am really sorry about that. One can not be born into a Christian existence even though there are some who do believe that. I do not believe you will find the truth in Atheism or for that matter in Mormonism. According to the Bible the very premise Joseph Smith built his Religion on is warned against by God. But that has nothing to do with you. You are not guilty of anything after the fact. as you have not experienced a re-birth. You are only the same as all mankind the  born of the Adam seed or sinas you have not experienced a re-birth. It is an awesome experience. I am sorry if yours was not a good childhood. Be blessed.

Re: Re: Oh, Stop It
Well, the truth is, I didn't much choose to be a Mormon.  I was born to it, and no choice was offered in the matter, either of my birth or how I was raised.  I chose to be an atheist because that's where the truth lay.

Excellent Post!

I agree with what you say.  It's sad that we can't disagree without anger and

hatred.  What has happened to reason?  It's time to come together and heal.

 Thanks for the visit.

I have to admit this is the very reason I shy away from political debate. There seems to be no end to the constant bickering among the powers at be. In the mean time our economy is tanking, the war rocks on, and  people still do not have any hope of help with health care needs. It's like they want to be in office but they don't really do any thing but bicker or scratch each others back. I hate that I am so cynical about all of this. I hope for a leader. Someone who will DO regardless of the political fallout. I vote in the elections and hope/ pray for the best. May God bless us all. ~Peace, OTA

Oh, Stop It
With all due respect, I find myself in disagreement.  I have yet to meet anyone who doesn't want "freedom and justice for all".  Of course, some have differing opinions about the meaning of "justice", but hardly beyond recognition.

And, as a point of fact, half the world's Christians are Roman Catholic, so they still claim a majority.  And the Crusades are hardly the only black mark in Christian history.  Protestants and Catholics have been fighting since the beginning of the Reformation, when Protestants began calling Catholics apostates.  I've studied the history of Christianity, and Islam, and Judaism.  Each has a rich culture and interesting, if not always uplifting or admirable, history.  But each can also be shown to be mistaken in its world view.

Another point of fact:  there is a lot of discussion among scientists about global warming, what causes it, and what can or should be done in response.  Most of the work supports the theory of man-caused warming, though there is debate over the severity of the problem.  Most of the anti-global warming stuff you find on the Internet is out-dated and largely refuted, like all the so-called science against evolution.  But if you find information you consider valid that contradicts global warming theories, I'd be happy to discuss it with you.  I do have a degree in physical chemistry, so I can assure you, I will be able to understand the technicalities, and offer a professional opinion.
