I'd venture to say that some of these kids (yes, I've heard about this weird loophole) are better off outside of their homes.  I remember, growing up, my next door neighbor took in a high-school teen friend of her son's because this kid's parents were alcoholics and abusive.  This boy went on to become a great father, engineer and husband.  Kids are not always better off with parents by a long shot.  Mal

Re: Re:
As I understand it, this happened because legislators couldn't decide on an age cutoff, so just said, "child".  But the authorities are contacting the parents, and issues such as child support are being discussed.  But the children are in foster homes for now.  Kind of a weird situation.

Re:
Sinome thank you for your comment.  I must clarify however, that these children (35 total, was the last reported number) are being dropped off for a variety of reasons, some of which might have been resolved, had the parents ASKED FOR HELP.  Instead they take what is, in my opinion, an easy way out.  But getting rid of their children won't solve much for them in the long run.  What happens when their situations improve and they decide they want the kids back?  WHO IS THINKING OF THE CHILDREN?

I didn't know about this. It boggles the mind. Thanks for this information.

It horrifies me to think that a parent would abandon his or her children because they do not behave... That can't be right.  I think its more like they can not take care of them properly because of mental illness, or extreme financial situations, or health issues, or many other more plausible reasons than misbehavior.  I think its not such a bad law.  A parent experiencing overwhelming issues can resort to placing his children in a responsible party's hands rather than abusing said children or watching them be hungry or mistreated.  What is the difference if the child is a new born or 8...is still a child and deserving of our society's protection.
