Naut...
...like Hazel and Krisles alluded to,
American Werewolf in London is very tongue-in-cheek, at times almost to the point of satire, but at other times scary as well, making it a nice blend of horror with periods of comic relief.
Idiocracy, on the other hand, is disturbing in spite of its humor, for the questions that it raises about where "civilization" is headed.
I recommend them both, even though my comment is now 11 days after this post....sorry!
As for the opera, I've always wanted to go, but, never took time to do so.
I love live theater and all live music, so the opera should prove enjoyable....the language barrier notwithstanding.

Re:
Vogue, I must provide a correction to the correction: Richard Strauss was actually German, born in Munich in 1864. He's
not related to the Vienna 'Strauss dynasty'...so it's
still a German opera...

I have seen Salome in Vienna. I love opera. My Mum was a doctor who was contracted as "stage doctor" to the Comic Opera in the former East Berlin and had to be there three nights a week. I always went along with her (then about 14) and was allowed backstage, into the dressing rooms, make up, etc. It was absolutely fascinating, I met famous singers and since that time am hooked to opera. One tiny little correction: Richard Strauss and all the Strausses were Austrian, so it's not a German opera, but you could call it Germanic if you wish.

I love opera, Nautikos. Have not seen this. I remember (not opera) but the movie, "Salome", in which Rita Hayworth danced the "Dance of the Seven Veils". She was so beautiful in it.

Hmmm I will have to go see it, it sounds interesting... but wan't the Salome's mother who made her daughter dance for Herod so that He would desire her and therefore grant her any request...? yup, it was not Salome's fault, she was a good daughter obeying her Mama... the Mama was the evil one. or was it Herod... I can't remember...

I've never seen Salome - perhaps now I will. And I, too, remember American Werewolf as beeing scary/funny. As far as Idiocracy goes - it is definitely a social commentary on where our dumb and dumber culture is taking us. Worth watching if only for its cringe-inducing moments. Mal

I’ve tried opera a couple of times and confess I was becoming disengaged by Act III. The production you’re describing, however, seems to have a modern touch to an old story and perhaps that would make a difference. I would never be able to drag “B” to such a performance though… Thank you for your powerful comment yesterday, Naut. Sometimes upon completing a prose/poem I do sit back and feel very proud or pleased with my endeavour and on other occasions I think it’s mediocre and I’m surprised by the favourable response from some of my readers. In the case of “Silence”, I did pour some soul into it and I thank you for acknowledging my work.
