This is pretty interesting to read a couple of years+ after.
Sounds like things are going as expected.

You and I both, and everyone else is finally exhaling...or should be! ;)

Re: Excellently put!

Thanks, metalrat!

And who's smiling now?  ;)

Excellently put!
Your thoughts mirror my own on the subject, which is refreshing because I'm the only one where I work who voted for Obama, for which I took a lot of ribbing.

I know one thing:
It's a brand new day!  But then it always was.

A great comment, Mousehop!

"Reign of Error..."  Love that!

And I believe your perspective on this is right-on, too.

TAPS, exactly so!
One of the factors that keeps us sane is maintaining 'an irrational optimism' in the face of this dangerous world we live in.  Or call it 'faith' though in what remains wide open to interpretation.  And it is healthier to have a bit of that, than to be in the constant clutch of fear, distrust and resentment.

Excellent
I, too, celebrate the election result as a repudiation of the reign of error of the Republican president and congress, and look with cautious optimism to improvement in Washington.  But I don't expect miracles.  In fact, I expect to be opposed to some of Obama's proposals, and intend to express my opposition.  But I also anticipate the possibility of response to expressions from the people, and that would be a refreshing change.

Well written, Ciel.  You have said what a lot of people feel.  There is an excitement among people.  Even if they expect too much, it is better than looking for the worst.

Re: Gomedome, thanks!
It's gratifying that in some things we are in agreement!

Re: Hurray, hurray, hurray
It seems to me that a lot of us have been reluctant cynics for quite a long time: disappointed idealists.  In this election, we had to choose between a return to our faith in the general goodness in mankind that we want to believe in, or hanging tight to the cynicism with which we have protected our hearts.

Ciel - it was refreshing to read a perspective on this election that

articulates what so many are feeling as well as you do here.

Particularly refreshing against a backdrop of some of the other perspectives we have seen lately.

Hurray, hurray, hurray
and thank you. That's exactly what I feel from this side of the pond - a new hope for humanity and thinking about each other instead of just ourselves. Sharing so that everyone gest a fair crack at the good things in life. Like food, for instance.
