Re: What do you say to his critics?

"What do I say to Flew's critics?"  Nothing! I have found that critics are everywhere, and that if we do anything at all, we are bound to have a critic or two. Although I was unaware that Flew had any critics on this matter, I certainly should not be surprised.  For that matter, I would not be surprised if Dr. Flew had far more critics as an Atheist than as a Believer. What did you say to them?

In my view, critcs are about as useless as "teats on a boar hog." I am fully capable, for instance, in making up my own mind.  I was just reporting the fact.  I agree with your last sentence: "The book should be judged on the merits of its arguements, not on its author's fame."  But, again, do you think it really will be?

What do you say to his critics?
This story has been out for a while.  The New York Times reported on it in November 2007, suggesting he may be "a senescent scholar possibly being exploited by his associates."  Apparently, in his mid-eighties, lifelong atheist Antony Flew isn't thinking as coherently as he once did.  I'm not saying all people who "find Jesus" are confused...just that Antony Flew claims to have found God and he is also reported to be a little confused these days.  I have not read the book, however.  The book should be judged on the merits of its arguments, not on its author's fame.

Great comment, Mystiic, and this "opening" will grow wider and wider!

Re:

Yes, Sam; they (the Scientific Community) certainly are - in increasing numbers! It might surprise you to know that some form of Evolution has been espoused for thousands of years - long enough for it to qualify as some of the earliest, most primitive constucts of man.

Thanks for your comment and your continuing interest.

Re: not intelligence as we know it though

Yes, Xeno-x, Intelligence AS WE KNOW IT, except far, far greater. Your theory of God as the Universe as an Organism simply does not compute, at least not to me.  Thank you, however, for your opinion.

Respectfully,

Gerald

Science and spirituality and God
are definitely opening some eyes. Quantum physics is discovering what many already have experienced, faith-God-truth will never die. Einstein said so much about his belief, reverance, and awe in God. Thanks.
