Weak crotches are narrow crotches (say what?)
Silver maple branches tend to leave the trunk at an acute angle, and branches leaving the trunk (no pun intended) at a narow angle are weaker than those coming off at a ninety degree, like oaks.
We have dandies, called "valley oaks":

Sorry, just gotta brag. Come see them sometime, the snaking branches hold their own ecosystem, incuding a biting salamander.

'Autum-coloured' leaves...
Something I don't get to see at home in Indonesia, being a tropical place.. Very beautiful picture..

All during Fall we suffer with black walnuts landing on the roof. We get
used to the noise after a while.... Pretty soon we'll lose the pretty maple leaves, though. Our new bartlett pear tree has gorgeous red leaves this fall!

Ah yes, the maples! I have two on my property, right by the fence, and for some reason most of their leaves are ending up on my neighbour's property. It's a good thing we get along well, and they love those trees...

The leaves
