Don't go away mad.........you and I will never agree on anything......We could not have a normal conversation, lunch, or tea. I'm not one to pretend. So the best route is to agree to disagree and leave it at that.

Thank goodness both political parties take turns running the country,
so that neither one can go too far in any direction. Y'all had Bush and look what he did. Time to fix the mess and pick up the mountains of horse turds filling the road to the future.
You'll get back in power, it's the way we do things in this country.
Now, co-operation and mutual communication between the feuding families might just prevent the wholesale damage that you fear and it might also further your agenda, so please, consider co-operation.
It is what I voted for, party political co-operation.........what he promised. A ver.

Honesty
Conservatism didn't lose in this election because it wasn't represented by either major party. The Republicans lost largely because they did not govern as conservatives. Bush and Congressional Republicans expanded government power and spending on borrowed money while claiming to support smaller government and greater liberty. It did take the electorate six years to notice, but in the end, it did. John McCain claimed to be a conservative, but offered huge tax cuts in a time of record deficits, and no credible plan to address the problems his party created in the budget.
Now, much attention is being given to Sarah Palin as a new standard bearer for the Republican Party. If she succeeds in taking such a position, the Republicans will become more deeply entrenched in Social Conservatism while ignoring fiscal conservatism and true personal liberty. That may be good for the Democrats and Libertarian Party, but would be bad for the country. For the Republicans to make themselves competitive again, they need to begin with an honest assessment of their history. The truth is, the fundamental principles of liberty, small government, and fiscal restraint were adandoned by Ronald Reagan to buy his tax cuts, which became instead a tax deferment for his generation, and a lasting burden to ours. That's no way for a conservative to behave.

....and so a new era now begins which hopefully all will embrace, benefit from, and reunite a country which, I believe, is hungry for positive forward movement.

Overall, the single mistake made by the Republican party during this
election has been their lack of attention to issues, and their total focus on discrediting their opponent. Had they spent more time and effort preparing their candidates with information about the ISSUES, rather than all the bullshit about Ayers, ACORN, his father, his birth certificate, etc., they might have had a chance.
Good Luck, Mr. Obama. You're going to need it.

I add my BRAVO for that paragraph TAPS cites.....great post! I was always quick to berate those who so harshly badmouthed Bush because I believe that we Americans have to support our leader with respect as our leader, even as we disagree; disagreeing with our leader is a right....and that leader is elected to protect all of our rights, an awesome responsibility.... and needs our support to do so. I'm not going to be a hypocrite and not support Obama in the same way.

As a Canadian conservative, I applaud you! And the paragraph that begins "We may have lost and election...", also cited by TAPS, is worthy of framing and putting on the wall!

"... We may have lost an election........but the things we believe in as conservatives – small government, personal responsibility, low taxes, the individual’s right to economic self-determination – these ideals have not lost. These principles never die, because they are the values of a political philosophy that cherishes freedom and affirms the best aspirations of the human spirit..." Very good paragraph, Corbin_Dallas.

Corbin,
I've been looking at it this way: it takes another Jimmy Carter to have another Ronald Reagan.

America can use a melding of conservative and liberal views, which can
form a middle of the road government which pleases more of us, makes us more of one nation and all that, and which gives us some real respect worldwide, once again.
We are often the greatest nation on earth and then screw up royally. Consistency would be great.
