I was in a similar situation -- walking on eggs, holding my breath
between emotional storms, enduring weeks of punishment (the silent treatment) and a habit of going along to get along. I had physical symptoms, pain, muscle spasms. Finally a wise doctor told me I had a choice: my marriage or my sanity. Since there were kids involved, kids who needed one dependable parent, I chose sanity. I highly recommend it.

I think you had to leave. Just too controlling! I could never live under those circumstances. It felt like you were property and not a partner. sam

mneme, I fear that people do not change. They only become more of what they are with the passing of time. If marriage doesn't work the first time, it won't usually the second or the third. Usually succeeding times are shorter than the first.
