Hey,Bill!
Not sure what criticism you refer to here... In fact, I love mush if it is properly done--corn-meal mush, say, with butter and a bit of maple syrup! And though I have personally given up on romance, I am still moved by a beautiful love song.
I didn't especially like the long, slow version by Roberta Flack. I had already grown fond of the folksy version, and it was like being in a car being driven 35mph on a 70mph freeway to someplace I really wanted to get to.
Funny, I do that, though, sometimes, when the scenery is grand. Well, not 35--but maybe 50.

I love that song, Ciel.
Now, with your comments about it, I like it even better than I did.
I must go listen to it.

I don't know what you think of Roberta Flack who also recorded it love
I'm not acknowledging the recent version by a new singer. In any event I've called you fair before. It makes me feel good as a holder of a degree in history and good music lover to see this piece's lyrics posted on your blog. Especially after your critism of romantic mush. I guess that there's a fine line between mush that one listener can stand and another sinks
I would say that sincerity might provide an excellent criteria for love lyrics, nothing but love songs

And I thought all this time that Roberta Flack had written it! Thanks for putting me straight - it is such a beautiful song. Mal
