Go for the novel. I did and all of a sudden, I had 2 and a half completed, although, so far, nobody wants them, but that may change. I just keep sending them out and slogging away at #3. It makes a great change from article writing.

Re: If you want motivation -- check out NaNoWriMo website...
Is that what you're doing this month?  Every year I think about doing it and then I take a pass.  Maybe this year.  Meanwhile I have to knock off home remedies article today and then get on to astrology newsletter.  I also just bid on two more jobs.  Am I trying to stay too busy to think seriously about doing it because I'm afraid?  Well, you go for it.  I hope you publish it on Blogit for starters.  Maryellen

Re: Thank you for your supportive comment
Especially considering what you are presently going through, it means a lot.  No, I have no idea what I want to write about.  People who know me have always told me I should write about my life.  But that never feels important enough, although who said, "Write what you know."  I needed to have somebody tell me not to give up on my dream.  Last night I absolutely made myself write something for the  FieldReport contest because I like the whole premise of it being true, real and first person.  When I was through with it I was ready to post it but Google Doc. had eaten it.  I spent some time trying to get it back but it was gone.  I told myself it wasn't good enough anyway, and I don't think it was.

What's wrong with you besides the arthritis?  I need to know so I can better direct my prayers.

Bless you.  Maryellen

If you want motivation -- check out NaNoWriMo website...

But if you're not ready for that much deadline pressure, you can still do the novel at your own speed.  Start with a general rough outline - who's your prime character, what's her goal, what's standing in her way? Who's her enemy? love interest? boss who takes credit for her ideas?  How does she solve the problem? Does she solve it?  etc., etc.  Once you have an idea where your story's going and how it's going to end, begin at the beginning and fill in the details.

Hemingway wrote about 1500 words a day. Each day, to get back on track, he'd read through and edit what he wrote the day before. By the time he got to his stopping point he'd be ready to take off on the next 1500 words. He tried to stop before he ran out of steam, when he was still itching to write on -- that way he'd start the next lines with an idea percolating.

I am writing my book on Blogit.  Everything I put on here is going into my book in some format.  So I feel like I am doing both.  Don't EVER  give up one your dream.  Do you have an idea for a start?

Start by taking baby steps.
which you are doing now pumping out blogs and articles. When I decided to run my first marathon, the idea of running over 26 miles seemed incomprehensible to me. But I just kept building up the amount of miles I could comfortably run, and by the day of the race, I was mentally ready. Its all mental, you can do it, Go Girl!
