Transcendental_Child - I think of all of the demonstrations of ignorance

I have witnessed on this site in 5 years, one surprises me the most.

That was when I mentioned that the Jewish people have never accepted Jesus Christ as the messiah and do not believe he is the son of God.  The comments ranged form telling me I was wrong to questioning my sources. Yeah really, the "chosen people" by simple deduction and utilizing the beliefs of these Christians, in that the only path to eternal life is accepting Jesus Christ as lord and master, are all going to straight to hell when they die.

These people are ignorant of the straight line that can be drawn from mythologies originating in pre-civilization oral traditions, while enveloping numerous pagan traditions and borrowing from a number of different cultures to become the cohesive distillation they view as infallable. They also willingly ignore all of the translational problems. Do they really think that people from the ancient middle east spoke Edwardian era English?

Anyone looking at the history of the Christian religions objectively soon comes to the conclusion that the only part of the bible that we can be certain is not bogus are the page numbers. Other than that, it represents the sum total of mankind's wishful thinking and nothing more.

Gomes...

to you and I who are unafraid to acknowledge how "this" religion originated...

We take a common sense view to the whole thing. We know history, we know literature, we know human nature. All three of these things have continued to share common themes. The bible reads like snippets from a Shakespearean play - in part because Shakespeare helped with the translation of the KJV to English from Latin - in English Blank Verse - the same writing form that his plays were written. It was done so - so that the peasants could more easily memorize the passages - they could not read you know.

It is literature... it was a political play... I mean come on!!! The Romans occupied Jerusalem ... then suddenly the Hebrew god favors the gentiles over his "chosen" people. The Romans - of The Roman Catholic Church - the wealthiest organization on earth. The FIRST church... the other guys (protestants) are - spin offs.

And we all know what happens to spin offs.

Sometimes - the ignorance of people just slays me.
